Jeff Smith brings us the newest chapter of his latest work RASL. Issue #3 of RASL starts to open up with a burst of information and we begin to see the story Jeff has masterfully given us in smaller doses in the previous issues.

Jeff is definitely building something new and exciting here with his latest work. The only complaint I have is that we have to wait until March 2009 until issue #4.

It is a rare combination to see a writer/artist who can provoke a great tale not only through images, but words as well.

RASL #3 appears to have skimmed the surface on what should be another great work from Jeff Smith.

A must read...

~PLMII

PLMII Rating - Out of 5 Skulls

Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell Team up once again to weave a high adventure fantasy tale, packed with some great black and white illustrations.

This new tale takes us to a place reminiscent of old London and the characters seem like they left the world of Dickens to live in a stranger place.

The story overall had good pacing and even though I figured out what the endgame was rather quickly, it was however quite fun to watch it play out.

I am also glad the writer chose not to dumb down the book and even create a new vernacular for this world.
I would like to give and update on the novels I am currently working on. I will refer to these works by their working titles, these are not the final titles so don't take them to heart.

(Working Title 1) Wizard Revolution

I have been working very hard on this book. The very first chapter is being meticulously formed, and first readers along with my writing group have given "thumbs up" on the content thus far. Just to give everyone some background for this book, it came about due to my desire to create a new myth for wizards and make use of some loose plot lines I was holding onto. This book has been so much fun for me to write, and I am anxious to flesh out the next few chapters.

(Working Title 2) A Fairy Detective

This book is well into chapter four and looking to be a winner thus far with first readers. This book will be for all ages but still has that PLMII touch. I have actually revamped this book and love how the rework has helped the story take shape. This particular work is near and dear to my muse and wife.

Both books have a solid world created for them and will be quite unique.
Welcome to the Madame Xanadu reboot. The trend in comics lately is to reboot a series, either to retell it or to do something completely different. Here we see the origins of Madame Xanadu told for the first time in what appears to be chronological order.

This series starts off with references to the Arthurian legend, but never really comes out and says it till the comic's close.

Dragon*Con is always a great event. The wife and I set out early on our trip to Atlanta and stopped in the city of Savannah. We enjoyed our stay at the Planter’s Inn, lunch at The Lady and Sons (Paula Dean’s Restaurant), and our Ghost Trolley Tour of Savannah.

We arrived at Dragon*Con on Thursday and were amazed to see so many attendees in line, for what some were saying was “4 hour” wait, just to get badges for the event. The line trenched around the Hyatt until almost 11 PM. I would learn later Dragon*Con Attendance was up almost 65%.

Friday

The dealer’s room opened with a rush of attendees who had their badges performing their “Friday Browsing”. Several limited editions along with a few collections found new homes, and the wife and I caught up with our DC buddies.

Saturday

Costumes, Costumes everywhere, also the mood of the Con seemed a bit askew. The impending hurricanes and tropical storms rightly had everyone on edge a bit. A few of my long time fans stopped by to chat and pick up items they were missing from their collections. Later in the evening as we milled about looking at costumes and such, my wife spotted Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance moving among the crowd. I went ahead of her to confirm and sure enough it was him. Unfortunately we did not have a camera at the time, and I also did not want to attract too much attention his way. He was with his wife, and appeared to be having such a goodtime. I did not want to interrupt that.

Sunday

More costumes and more of my fans stopped by to chat and find out what I was up too. More books found their way to the homes of new fans, and I got a chance to catch up with my buddy Larry Elmore and his crew in the exhibitor’s hall. Later that night we hit the “Pacific Rim” a great Asian restaurant and enjoyed a good meal with our buds, Dave and Darius.

Monday

Last minute sales hummed and the wife and I were both drained. We packed up, said goodbye to our Dragon*con dealer‘s room buddies and spent the night enjoying comfort food from “Room Service” while watching “Don’t Mess with the Zohan”.

Dragon*Con 2008 was a great event and I look forward to 2009. I got to meet so many of my fans, a few new artists, whom I may work with in the future. I also got some interest from a few small publishers at Dragon*con who would like to see the projects I am working on. Overall my new “Limited Edition” was well received, my fans have spoken and I shall do more.

See you @ the next Event…

Sure we have seen post nuclear catastrophe stories before, however DuPrau has breathed new life into this type of story.

I opened “The People of Sparks” with high anticipation. I will say it starts of interesting, but can get a bit predictable at times. The collection is cool and has that "Anime" feel, being that we see Batman interpreted many different days is nice, but having the same voice for him throughout is a great touch.

World Of Warcraft - This new comic based on the popular MMORPG, has the potential to be either really bad or great. Comics based on video games for the most part fall flat on their electronic face. The new WOW comic makes that theory incorrect. WOW's comic storyline is quite good and even better if you are a WOW player.

I will admit I started to collect it just because it was WOW, but to my surprise it is well drawn and well written. If you like WOW or fantasy, this comic is a good read.

PLMII Rates It:

Jeff Smith's new comic RASL returns with #2. Jeff is a great artist and a wonderful writer. RASL #2 picks up the pace and brings up deeper into this new world Jeff has created, and he is keeping the suspense while keeping the reader interested. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I will keep this brief.

If you are a Bone fan, this new series is not a "Bone" type story. It is more mature, Jeff is taking his readers on a new adventure and this one might not be for the younger ones. Jeff's work is great and RASL looks like its going to be another great work from Jeff Smith, writer\artist.

PLMII Rates It:

The trend lately in comics is to "reboot" the series or do a "what if", and it has produced some great comics and some that should have never been printed.

Comic publishers are trying to attract new readers and collectors alike with these new comic lines with well known characters. Enter "Thor", the Marvel, God of Thunder gets a "reboot" and starts again with #1. It is not a total reboot, as it refers to events that have happened in various comics already in print.

However the story is fresh and looks to be something new and old Thor fans could enjoy.
PLMII Movie Review: The Happening

M. Night Shyamalan has created for his fans an Eco-horror film ,and its needs to be recycled quick. Never has a director/writer fallen so far. How do you go from the "Sixth Sense" to making no sense. I watched this film with the hopes of the great return of M. Night Shyamalan, instead while watching "The Happening", I was thinking "WTF" is happening. Who at the studio decided this was a film, and it should be made. The scary part about all of this is that M. Night Shyamalan, has been chosen to direct the upcoming "Avatar : The Last Airbender" live action film. All we can do is hope M. Night Shyamalan sees what happening and fixes it quick.

PLMII Rates It :
