Dragon*Con 2008 PLMII Report

Dragon*Con is always a great event. The wife and I set out early on our trip to Atlanta and stopped in the city of Savannah. We enjoyed our stay at the Planter’s Inn, lunch at The Lady and Sons (Paula Dean’s Restaurant), and our Ghost Trolley Tour of Savannah.

We arrived at Dragon*Con on Thursday and were amazed to see so many attendees in line, for what some were saying was “4 hour” wait, just to get badges for the event. The line trenched around the Hyatt until almost 11 PM. I would learn later Dragon*Con Attendance was up almost 65%.

Friday

The dealer’s room opened with a rush of attendees who had their badges performing their “Friday Browsing”.  Several limited editions along with a few collections found new homes, and the wife and I caught up with our DC buddies.

Saturday

Costumes, Costumes everywhere, also the mood of the Con seemed a bit askew.  The impending hurricanes and tropical storms rightly had everyone on edge a bit. A few of my long time fans stopped by to chat and pick up items they were missing from their collections. Later in the evening as we milled about looking at costumes and such, my wife spotted Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance moving among the crowd. I went ahead of her to confirm and sure enough it was him. Unfortunately we did not have a camera at the time, and I also did not want to attract too much attention his way. He was with his wife, and appeared to be having such a goodtime. I did not want to interrupt that.

Sunday

More costumes and more of my fans stopped by to chat and find out what I was up too.  More books found their way to the homes of new fans, and I got a chance to catch up with my buddy Larry Elmore and his crew in the exhibitor’s hall. Later that night we hit the “Pacific Rim” a great Asian restaurant and enjoyed a good meal with our buds, Dave and Darius.

Monday

Last minute sales hummed and the wife and I were both drained. We packed up, said goodbye to our Dragon*con dealer‘s room buddies and spent the night enjoying comfort food from “Room Service” while watching “Don’t Mess with the Zohan”.

Dragon*Con 2008 was a great event and I look forward to 2009. I got to meet so many of my fans, a few new artists, whom I may work with in the future. I also got some interest from a few small publishers at Dragon*con who would like to see the projects I am working on. Overall my new “Limited Edition” was well received, my fans have spoken and I shall do more.

See you @ the next Event…
