The People of Sparks

The People of Sparks

In Book Two of The Ember Series: DuPrau continues the adventures of Lina and Doon, who have led the 400 residents from the underground city of Ember to the world above. I am huge fan of “The City of Ember.” I found it to be one of the most creative works in a long time. Sure we have seen post nuclear catastrophe stories before, however DuPrau has breathed new life into this type of story.

I opened “The People of Sparks” with high anticipation. I will say it starts of interesting, but can get a bit predictable at times. I saw the ending somewhere in Chapter four, but kept reading out of curiosity for this new world DuPrau has created.

I love the new society fragments she has created and there was a bit of chill and mystery reminiscent of her first book that felt quite good. I will say that overall it was a fun read but not nearly as engaging as the first book.
